In Loving Memory of the Victims of the Knight Inn Fire

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, family members, friends, and the Broome County community are mourning the devastating loss of several lives in the tragic fire at the Knight Inn in Endwell, New York, in Endwell, New York.

Authorities confirmed that multiple victims died of smoke inhalation during the third-alarm fire that broke out early Monday morning. Those who lost their lives include Michelle D. Woolfolk, 58; Joshuea Molyneaux, 29; Dominique A. Cruz-Champion, 27; and three young children — Zachariah Cruz-Molyneaux, 10 months; Romyn J. Cruz-Molyneaux, 2; and Ella N. Cruz-Molyneaux, 3.

The fire was first reported at approximately 5:59 a.m. when emergency dispatchers received multiple 911 calls about a blaze on the second floor of the hotel. Within minutes, firefighters and law enforcement rushed to the scene as flames spread rapidly through the structure. Despite their swift response, the fire intensified quickly, and the roof collapsed shortly after first responders arrived.

Authorities later confirmed that electrical issues were ruled out as a cause. Investigators arrested 24-year-old Tyler Russell in connection with the fire on charges including arson and six counts of manslaughter. Officials stated he was taken into custody without incident and remains held as the investigation continues.

The tragedy has left dozens of residents displaced, with emergency shelters and community support services quickly mobilized. Local organizations, including the American Red Cross and United Way of Broome County, have worked to provide food, shelter, and assistance to grieving families and survivors. A relief fund has raised tens of thousands of dollars to help those impacted rebuild their lives.
